  5. Digital photography can change the way children learn. Integrating digital photos in the classroom is a great way for improving student's interaction both with teachers and other students, and it can also be helpful for visual learners to learn and improve their comprehension.

There are many places where we can find digital photos on the Internet.

    For example:

    1. Flickr - a place where we can find more millions of free images
    2. Shutter Stock - high quality photos can be found here
    3. Unsplash - Free high-resolution photos
    4. Picjumbo
    5. Free digital photos - free download of high quality photos

  7. Are you looking for free, quality digital images to use for a professional or personal presentation? If so, consider the following sites that feature user-friendly images:

    Gratisography
    MorgueFile
    Picjumbo
    Pixabay
Once you've selected your photos, you can make a slide show using SlideShowCreator.

Digital and traditional visuals (i.e. posters, charts), provide many instructional advantages, including easy access. Digital visuals are easy to download and traditional visuals offer easy preparation (i.e. markers applied to poster board).

Visuals can also simplify complex information centrally displayed in the classroom for all students to view. They can also accommodate classroom brainstorming depending on lesson plan goals.

Digital visuals do have some limitations, including the cost of often bulky hardware needed to display the images (i.e. projectors, scanners, etc.). Both traditional and digital visuals require the appropriate use of white space, to avoid presenting too much information on one slide or poster.

All visuals can complement the integration of any subject matter. For example, a mathematics lesson can use digital or traditional images of graphs or charts, a language arts class can use digital images for story telling (Yang, Cheung, 2011), physical education can illustrate the correct form of exercises and a school orientation can use a digital presentation of the facility layout for new students.

  8. With the rise of technology in the classroom and our everyday lives, it only makes sense to embrace digital images into our educational practices. While Google, Bing, and Photobucket offer quick access to digital images, I did find a few lesser known digital image libraries.
    • Stock.XCHNG- This site has a library of over 400,000 images that cover almost any and every topic an individual can think of.
    • Openphoto- A well categorized site, Openphoto organizes its photos into easy to navigate categories so you can easily find the types of photos you want.
    • Freerange- This site had a very diverse collection of digital photos ranging from the typical stock photos to the more abstract, all with high resolution to ensure the quality of the photo is maintained due to cropping and resizing.
    • Flickr- One of the most popular photo sharing sites on the internet used by professional and recreational photographers. The only drawback to Flickr is that not all the pictures can be used for free.

    Questions:
By using another individuals’ photos or ones found on the internet, what would you do to maintain the original owner of the image is given credit for the image?
How would you teach students to use digital images in a responsible and respectful manner?
How does the usage of digital images enhance content being used in the classroom?

  9. Using digital images in a classroom with students, especially younger learners can help with understanding concepts by giving them a relatable image to help them see the world in a different point of view.

I have found the following sites to be helpful, easy to use, and most importantly, free to help teachers use digital images in the presentation of classroom learning.

    1. Freerange: Offers high resolution photos free of charge for the public to use.

    2. Pexels: Allows the public to use high quality photos to help enhance business, education, and personal graphics use.

    3. Flickr: Free to use and photos cover a wide variety of subject matter, allowing the user to find what they are looking for quickly and in high quality.

    4. Life of Pix: This site is geared more towards locations, which can help students visualize life in other areas of the world. It also allows amateur photographers the opportunity to showcase their work.

    5. Wikimedia: Allows the public to search everything from nature landscapes to historic events.
